(trigger warning)
Recently, December 12th marked 77 years since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was written.
It is about making sure all people have the same rights, no matter who they are, or how they live.
The theme this year is “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials.”
This reminds us that human rights are part of our daily lives and they are essential to our everyday experiences.
This year is also the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the Holocaust.
During this time, the Nazis started by murdering many disabled people.
It is important to remember history, honour those who died, and stand up against hate and discrimination.
It reminds us to learn from the past and to always advocate for people’s rights.
Human rights are about feeling safe, making choices, having access, and being part of the community.
The UDHR helps us remember this, and to treat everyone fairly and kindly.
