INFO: Disability Support Pension for Teenagers at School

Mar 10

DID YOU KNOW: If your child is turning 16 years old and is blind or has significant disability they are may be eligible for the Disability Support Pension from the day they turn 16, even if they are still at school. The pension at this age is lower than the adult rate. They should also qualify for the Pensioner Education Supplement (and you’ll need to ask and apply for this separately).

You may wish to reapply for Carer Allowance and/or Carer Payment as it will be automatically cut off after your child turns 16 otherwise.

Your family income is irrelevant for the DSP.

If your child is not eligible for the DSP, you may still wish to reapply for a Health Care Card and Carer Allowance.
